Did they really not give you any guidance on this yet?

It seems that windows can save the wrong password into the credential manager, and even though you enter the correct after, it wont work until you delete all credentials. Any ideas? I don't know whether this was the root cause or not, but it stopped minutes after I authorised the new IP address as a permitted connector source address.

I recently had a major issue where a client was seeing constant password prompts when multi-factor authentication (MFA) was enabled for access to Office 365 with his Outlook 2016 client. I had the issue for quite a while and spoke to Microsoft. This client uses 2FA of Office365. My other two accounts - a business email in IMAP config and my hotmail account - both work flawlessly. I would love some insight from anybody as this is the only solution I could see which is a pain (on prem mfa). Sign in box is a little different than what I'm used to, am able to authenticate, sends two factor prompt, then fails after acknowledgement. I’ll update when MS give any suggested actions... Update would be perfect as users (Including myself...) within my tenant are experiencing same issue with no work around in sight. There really seems to be no true workaround for this that I've found yet. Autodiscover... yeah yeah, I reviewed it 5 times since this started. Outlook will then sync just fine for a few more minutes before re-prompting with the password prompt again. Sometimes it wants my app password, sometimes it wants my actual password, sometimes it just wants to be a butthole and not accept either. If I click cancel and then "need password" it will again work just fine for another couple of minutes. Since last month my college O365 account will continuously ask me for a password despite repeated correct entries. Customer complaining about this issue for the last 2 weeks. To resolve this issue in Outlook 2016 for Mac, install the February 2017 Outlook update (version 15.31.0) from the following Office website: Release notes for Office 2016 for Mac. Same here. We have this problem too. This particular issue made this past Friday a living hell for me.

Hopefully our Premier support will prove fruitful, as we’ve tried a number of fixes for this and have had no luck so far. I've got several accounts on Outlook 2016.

outlook 2016 mfa password prompt

Outlook prompts for password and doesn't use Modern Authentication to connect to Office 365.

The setting is in the Exchange Admin Center, under mail flow-> connectors. I finally got it to work by using a combo of various registry hacks, re-creating the profile, and blowing away every single item in credential manager. I've got several accounts on Outlook 2016. Interesting. I wondered at the time whether it was because we had so many unauthorised smtp attempts (from our mfc) that our IP address had been blacklisted from their authentication servers. Press question mark to learn the rest of the keyboard shortcuts. Argh I am having dramas with this because of adfs.

If I click cancel outlook goes to "need password" in the bottom but clicking the tab connects it back to the exchange server right away. We’re a hybrid, and I get this behavior when I’m off the network.
